Wayne first went to Japan in 1997, planning to stay for only a year as a short-term missionary and teach English for Tama Christian Family Center, (TCFC) the school started by Tim Huber. While he was there Wayne saw the miniscule number of Christians in Japan (about 0.3%), and thus the great need for missionaries. He heard God's call and saw God's broader plan for his life - that he become a missionary to Japan. "I told the Lord that I would stay as long as He wants me to, which is now looking like the rest of my life."
Wayne lives in Kawasaki, which has a population of about 1 million, and he taught English for TCFC for 6 yrs where every class session has a Bible lesson; largely a pre-evangelism, seed-planting ministry. In 2003 Wayne left TCFC and moved into college ministries with his church. He speaks regularly at "Crossroad Cafe", a twice a month coffee-house style outreach for college students, and attends a local university's English club to help out and make friends with the students. He also teaches a bilingual (English - Japanese) Bible study with a Japanese friend who translates. Wayne does some "spot" preaching for his church as well, as the need arises.
"One of my favorite verses is Phil. 3:12: "Not that I have already obtained all this, or been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me." This is my dream and what drives me, to find out why Jesus saved me, what His plans are for me, and to do it with all my heart." |
